STEM Snapshot: Nov. 12-Dec. 10

During this rotation, students took on the role as a Computational Thinker to use technology as a way to solve problems. They did this through different stations that revolved around the Hour of Code.
What is the Hour of Code?

The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered.

How did we participate at RHL?
During their STEM rotation, 1st-5th grades had 4 stations that they participated in: Coding Unplugged, Computer Coding, STEM Bins & Ms. Meredith Mini.

Since the STEM specials rotation is only 3 days, students completed 2 stations the first two days. On the last day, students participated in a larger chunk of computer coding with their assigned game.

Kindergarten still did stations as well, but their format was different for their 20 minute block of time they have with me. They did one station a day: STEM Bins, Seesaw with Ms. M & iPad Coding.

Kindergarten: Hopster Coding Safari (free iPad app)

1st Grade: Kodable (online version, pre-coding)

2nd Grade: Algo Switch & Glitch (coding with arrows)

3rd Grade: Angry Birds (intro to block coding)

4th Grade: Scratch (block coding)

5th Grade: Bitsbox (into to Java Script coding)

Can my child practice at home?
Yes! I made a bookmark page for the 1st-5th computer games so they could access those specific tasks.

You can also go to HourOfCode.com for a large variety of coding tasks as well.
